Title Research Article Blog
Hello blog, so today we are going to talk about the article called ”The graphic art of film title design throughout cinema history”. This report told us about how is the sequence at the opening of a movie and tricks to make your movie catchy. So, it starts teaching us how the titles of a movie are extremely important, even thought the majority of the audience doesn’t pay attention to those details. Film titles are, indeed, the primary impression an audience will have a film. As they have become both more integral to film and a genre of design all their own, “many filmgoers have come to savor the opening of the film,” says designer, media historian and film title aficionado David Peters.
In 1910, movies started to being a business. They started to be an ever-growing entertainment industry offering cheap entertainment for the masses. With movie theaters being a hub of social and cultural life, audiences became so boisterous that during movies etiquette announcements were displayed as part of the opening film title sequences. Also, film titles were simple and easy to read. In white or black.
During 1890 film titles were more risky because they started more decorative lettering as well as an outline inspired by the sinuous, flowing and curving lines of Art Nouveau popular between the 1890s and 1910s.
Finally, it let us know that film titles design conveyed the tone of a movie through communicative and expressive lettering and layout. They are part of a narrative function and were designed to prepare the viewer for the mood and story of the film.
Title Research Blog #1
Hi blog! How you doing? So for today’s task I’m going to talk about the titles of 3 movies that are really related with my genre. These 3 movies are ”The Maid’s Room”, ”Psycho Mother-in-Law” and ”A Bride’s Revenge”. By the way, the last 2 blogs I talked more about horror than drama, so in this blog I’m more based on drama because it’s also a part of our genre.
Let’s start, with the first movie ”The Maid’s Room”, it begins with a non-diegetic sound with black screens to show the first 3 titles, this effect creates tension in the audience so they can know what to expect. Also, the camera was handholded in the first scene so it makes the tension more real. The titles were white and I’m guessing that the font was ”Titles News Roman”
To keep with this research, the second movie ”Psycho Mother-In-Law”, also starts with a non-diegetic sound in a dark background and after the title of the movie it starts with a handholded shot, focusing on the main character, The titles were white and the font was ”Arial”
And last but not least, the third movie ”A Bride’s Revenge”, it begins with a non-diegetic sound but in contrast of the two other movies this one starts in a bright place but this location was where the bad things happened, so it demonstrates tension. Titles were white and font was script.
Finally, This 3 movies had in common that they all start with non-diegetic sounds but in different scenarios, so it all depends on what point of view of you or your audience. Also, they all have white titles.
Research Blog #2: Films that Influenced US
Hello blog, today I’m gonna talk about two movies that really influenced me to do this project. These movies were ”Perfect Sisters” and ”It”. I watched both of them and also I studied them.

Convention Blog #2
Hello blog, let’s start this Monday with a brand new blog. So, what we had to do was basically to watch 3 films about our genre, that in my case is horror and then examine whether the conventions I came up with in my last blog showed up in each of the openings. So, for this task I watched ”The Orphanage”, ”It” and ”The Conjuring” . Also, to mention what I think I would use in my own film opening. So to begin with this comparison , they all agree that it starts with a dark room that can be mental institutions, dreary orphanages, rickety mine shafts, abandoned houses or caves, and I really would like to use one of this locations because it’s scary and it matches perfectly with what I want to do. Also, a scary song in the background as a non-diegestic sound, and last but not least I would like to film on a spooky basement like ”The Conjuring” one because it’s very creepy and scary.
Convention Blog #1
Hello blog! My final task is to do a movie and the genre we choose is predominant horror and a little bit of drama. To know more about this we have to give horror a meaning, for me it is speculative fiction which is intended to frighten, scare, disgust, or startle its readers by inducing feelings of horror and terror. Horror is frequently supernatural, though it can be non-supernatural. Now, when you watch this kind of movies you’ll expect to see people screaming, blood and murders. Also, you’ll expect to see dirty clothes, clothes with holes on it and black clothes. Furthermore, some props could be a zombie apocalypse, a ghost house and a serial killer. In the other hand, the lighting has to be dark so it will made you afraid, also you can hear screamings as a diegetic sound and scary sounds as a non-diegetic sound.
PICTURES FROM PITCH PLANNING

OUR PITCHES
Hello blog! In our pitch meeting we presented two pitches. The first one is called ”Equivocal Androginia” : A man suffers an instant limerence when he saw a belle in the train, he kidnaps her without knowing that she isn’t what he thinks. And, the second one is called ”Piel”: Two best friends share an unusual condition in their body which connects their pain and scars into oneself. So, in the pitch meeting we talked about these two topics and we agreed that we are going to do the first one, because it is easier and funny. Also, it fits into the 2 minutes task. The other one, it’s interesting but it’s harder because it doesn’t fit the two minutes task, and it will require a lot of special effects.
